Ruined Roads is an installation of second-hand classic books laid as a walkway. It offers a commentary on how classic books often function as symbols of canonised sacred wisdom in western culture. Many of us do not dare desecrate them, yet we have a history of willingly damaging symbols of sacred wisdom from ‘othered’ cultures.
Jessica Raschke is a writer, artist, educator, and psychotherapist based in the Southern Highlands (NSW). All of her work explores existential themes such as mortality, meaning, and the human experience. She often creates participatory text-based art installations that invite community engagement and reflection.
