Bush Blocks 1-9
.
Photo Silkscreen with acrylic paint, on Galvanised Sheet metal with rivets. 2019-20
Bush Blocks 1-9, were begun during the 2019 bush fire season. Using industrial processes the Bush blocks series contain a page from the book of Genesis. During the “Black Summer" bush fires, living on the edge of the bush was a site of reflection and fear. The page from the bible symbolises a need to start again and a need for change and to stop playing god. After centuries of manipulation of the landscape we were being held accountable for our past colonial destruction.
Printmaking for me is a process of storytelling incorporating history, place and memory. Finding an entry point with the subject, the oral histories, plus the making, dictates the materials chosen, the processes used and the surfaces
which receive the print. Often a intuitive evolution takes place, scraping back a surface, cutting it up and reworking the image.
Layers within print are the spine of my art practice which is manifold and is currently shifting through narrative, incorporating analog photography, drawing and painting into the layers of my studio print process.
