The Blue Mountains sandstone, plinth, 2023
The Blue Mountains are a mountainous region and a mountain range located in New South Wales, Australia. It is an area of breathtaking views, rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs, deep inaccessible valleys and swamps. The Blue Mountains are a plateau rising gradually in elevation from 170 metres at the eastern edge to an average of nearly 1,000 metres on the western side. The sandstone which forms the plateau was formed from sediments deposited by ancient river systems about 250 million years ago. The Greater Blue Mountains Area was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000
Artist profile
Beata Geyer was born in Warsaw, Poland and now lives in the Blue Mountains, Australia. Her practice encompasses a variety of media ranging from painting, photography and video to large scale, site-specific installation projects. Geyer graduated from the University of Sydney, Sydney College of the Arts with a Masters of Visual Arts Degree where she also attained BVA Honours 1st class. She previously studied Architecture and Urban Design in Warsaw at the Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) and Photography and Design in London at the City of Westminster College.
