The Blue Mountains sandstone, plinth, 2023

The Blue Mountains are a mountainous region and a mountain range located in New South Wales, Australia. It is an area of breathtaking views, rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs, deep inaccessible valleys and swamps.
The Blue Mountains are a plateau rising gradually in elevation from 170 metres at the eastern edge to an average of nearly 1,000 metres on the western side. The sandstone which forms the plateau was formed from sediments deposited by ancient river systems about 250 million years ago.
The Greater Blue Mountains Area was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000
