The Silence In Between
.
Painted steel, painted concrete, space. H88cms xW55cms xD39cms. 2021
Working spontaneously has been a hallmark of my art practice. Whether I’m welding steel or drawing on paper, l allow each connection to inform the next, creating a fluid and dynamic process with elements of serendipity at play. I see this process as a ‘dance with materials, shape and form,' where physical body movement plays a crucial role. The three elements in this work can be assembled in an expanded or contracted arrangement in response to the architectural space in which it sits.
I am a Sydney-based artist and recently completed my MFA at National Art School in Sculpture (2019). Drawing on a childhood steeped in music, my practice examines the limit of spatial connections in a way silence is used in music compositions. Different spatial rhythms evolve depending on the arrangement.
