Hand-cut Tyvek paper
I was born and raised in Harbin city of ice, where winters can last up to six months of sub-zero temperatures. The memories of growing up in such snowcapes play an influential role in my monochromatic works. Being a process-oriented artist I thrive on ambiguities of fragility/strength, and light/shadows. The fragility of my works is a metaphor because to be fragile is also to be vulnerable. My work records the time between formal and material imagination where the artist's body is the centre of embodiment. This journey of thinking through materials manifests many different configurations of biomorphic shapes.
