Homage to the Duvet
Home should evoke a cosy sense of refuge, here I use a predominantly orange, neon spray painted duvet to symbolise the warm joyful internal state we anticipate as we open our front door.
Spray paint was chosen to achieve layered soft transitions of colour & pattern. A metaphor for family life, as we are a composite of genetics & lived experiences.
Shelley Bowles soft wall sculpture is completely created from repurposed items: a queen size duvet & a large picture frame.
The cotton fabric is draped, fully secured with stitching, in a relaxed composition, with emphasis on the folds of comfort a duvet provides.
It is presented on a fine art picture frame to elevate & celebrate its importance in our home life.
Portals of space are left open in the frame for the viewer to appreciate the architectural surface behind the artwork.
Size: Width 115cm x Height 125cm
Hanging hardware: 2 heavy duty picture frame hangers attached to the top back of the frame.

Bio
My practice involves a constant exploration into Materials & The Power Of Colour & Light.
As first-generation immigrants to Australia 30 years ago, one of our deciding factors was the positive impact of seeing the vibrant blue sky. Colour & Light has a definite impact on our mood and health. I often select high key, warm spectrum colours to bring vibrancy into a space.
I discovered a keen interest in large installation art during my BFA degree a couple of years ago. Conscious of the single use materials used in the Anthropocene, my site-specific art works are created with the ability to be rearranged & repurposed.
