As part of the Home exhibition, I reflected on the nostalgic design language of my childhood—bright orange swirling curtains framing memories, while sprawling urban brick homes lined the streets I rode past. The emergence of space-age design in the ’70s fascinated me. I was particularly drawn to Marcel Breuer’s Cesca chair, its curved metal tube inspired by bicycle frames, layering this with the common brick, blending memory, architecture, and emotion, embodying the sculptural memory of home.
This exploration questions the chair’s form and materiality. We sit on grass, rocks, or brick fences without hesitation, yet when these same materials form a chair, they seem foreign. Why? By reimagining sandstone, concrete, in this case bricks and metal into seating, the work invites us to rethink comfort, function, and our relationship with design
