Home, for me, was never a place of refuge. It was never a place I yearned to be; I have been searching for home ever since I was a child. I found it for a time, then lost it, and then found it again with the birth of my children. Over the years, I have come to realise home isn't a material place after all. It was within me all along, and from the soot and ash I have emerged.
Emma Florence May is a proud trans-woman, interdisciplinary artist, and educator. She utilizes traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking, textiles, photo media, collage, and mixed-media techniques to critically explore human-environment relationships and the illusive ‘boundaries’ we like to create between ourselves, others, and our environment. Her current practice is exploring identity, gender, and belonging.
