Therese Briggs explores memory, displacement, and environmental transformation through the language of botanical science. Inspired by European plant expeditions of the 18th century, her work examines how plants were collected, transported, and removed from native environments. Briggs focuses on noxious weeds and invasive species whose beauty conceals destructive ecological effects. Influenced by botanical specimens and scientific classification, she investigates tensions between attraction and threat, control and disruption. Through the intersection of art and science, Briggs invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between humans, plants, and the lasting consequences of displacement, colonisation, environmental change, and social stigma on communities and ecosystems.
