My sculptures are made through a process indebted to surrealist automatism, involving a collaboration between the sensations in my body with materials that have fluid, malleable qualities to crystallise ephemeral affects. The works are an exploration of internal states of being, prioritising and giving form to the tacit knowledge held within the body. Through this spontaneous and intuitive process of making the outcome is often unexpected and surprising, symbology and archetypes can be found within these abstract-figurative forms.
Liv Campton (b.1999, Eora/Sydney) is an Australian multi-disciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, sculpture, and textiles on unceded Gadigal land. Her artistic practice explores the human body and figuration through surrealist automatism processes. Liv is interested in the representation and monumentalising of subjectivity as a form of resistance to manipulation, the unconscious and layering materiality as a record of time.
