Individually framed 21 x 26 x 8cm

Life of a Bee is RAJAR Bromide silver gelatin paper, sourced from England. It expired in the early 1920s and was processed in 2020. Without any intentional exposure on my behalf prior to processing, the tones of the prints were determined by the previous century of environmental interaction with oxidants and prior handling. One some prints, it is visible where the suspended silver has migrated, leaving white spots resembling stars on the black prints. Due to the age of the paper, they have curled, becoming sculptural forms which simultaneously reveal and conceal these images.
Australian artist Aidan Gageler lives and works on Awabakal Land (Lake Macquarie, NSW). He graduated from Camberwell College of the Arts, UAL (London, UK) with first-class honours. Gageler’s practice thinks through photography’s receptibility, both to light and to sentiment. Curiously, his materials bruise with exposure to time, attesting to a kind of fleshy experience akin to our own
