The View From Here

iPhoto on archival cotton rag paper, 84.1 x 118.9 cm, 2025; single channel video in viewfinder acrylic box, 2024/2025
THE VIEW FROM HERE, records an ongoing fascination with night sky. The series of images (2 shown here) taken over many years, reveal the distance and remoteness that we have from our cosmic neighbours. They are taken on an iphone (not a new one!), which is seemingly incompatible with the task at hand. However, the i-phone image with its limitations also describes that distance and remoteness. The hand-held digital camera brings a confusion and beauty to the images, and in doing so speaks of the places beyond our own.

Annelies Jahn is a multi-disciplinary artist with a Masters of Fine Art from the National Art School. Jahn lectures at the National Art School and has previously been a director at STACKS Projects Inc., and ES74 Gallery.
