Sarah Robson
Seeing Silence (Felt Proposition Indigo)
.
Industrial felt, oil and acrylic paint, 2023
180 x 100 x 40cm
These series of works titled Felt Proposition challenge the perception of geometric abstract art as being overly rational and impersonal and therefore disconnected from human emotion and experience. These works are intrinsically tactile, mobile and non representational - tempting the viewer to share in the experience of their mute presence.
Sarah Robson lives and works on the land of the Cammeraygal of the Eora Nation, Northern Sydney. She has been a practising artist for over 30 years, exhibiting nationally and internationally, with a practice encompassing painting, sculpture and installation. Her most recent bodies of work consist of industrial felt, paint and cast bronze. Contradictorily, Sarah uses the physical materiality of these works to explore abstract notions of impermanence, connection and uncertainty. Sarah is particularly interested in art as a meditation on the nature of existence—the state of flux we reside within and the fundamental interrelationship of all things.
