Merryn Trevethan

 Unstable Structures #2

.

 Wall mounted sculpture, Acrylic on timber, 37cm(W) x 45cm(H) x 25cm(D), 2024

Unstable structures #2 is informed by the uncertainty of the everyday life. The series evoke a spatial ambiguity that reflects the complex networks and shifting perspectives of moving through urban spaces; spaces which require us to constantly need to reassess our relationship to our environment. The work evokes a somewhat anxious, labyrinthian feeling of not knowing whether one is supposed to be going up or down or both.
Now based in Naarm/Melbourne following a decade in Asia, Merryn Trevethan’s is inspired by the constantly changing structure of cities and considers the human response to the built environment. Through her multidisciplinary practice Merryn examines how we see, navigate, and record our experiences of urban spaces.

Merryn has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally; including a recent solo exhibition at Linden New Art, Melbourne. Key residencies include; HKIS, 2025; Golden Art Foundation, 2018; HART HK, 2021-2024. Merryn created murals for ATYP, Sydney, 2022; and Facebook Singapore, 2020. She was commissioned by National Arts Council during Singapore Art Week 2021.
