.
Mixed medium, dimensions variable, 2022
These five works in Agitate are from a solo exhibition Attachment at Five Walls Projects in 2022. The exhibition explored the relationship between the support/surface and relations to colour and space. Black box and Rise combine two geometric forms, the square and the rectangle; the rectangle is formed by extending the support structure below the field of the square allowing architectural elements, ledges or gaps to open allowing the space of the wall to become part of the work.
Colour is limited and used to expand and contract space. Black and the colour Blue evoke different qualities of visual weight and space. The drop-down structures are painted to evoke movement and containment. Each work encourages viewing from numerous perspectives, engaging the viewer to reflect on their own physical and perceptual understanding of space
'Black box': acrylic, marble dust, oil on marine ply, oak 49.5 x 50 x 4cm; 'Rise': acrylic, marble dust, oil on marine ply, oak 49.5 x 50 x 4cm
