The Blue Mountains | Alien Song Part 1
.
'The Blue Mountains (Close Up)': acrylic on canvas, 107 x 107 cm, 2014; 'Alien Song Part 1': SD video and black box, 31 x 31 x 31 cm, 2014-2025
The first work is an abstract acrylic painting of the Blue Mountains, presented as a sign for "aliens" so that they may recognise the significance of seeing the actual Blue Mountains. The second work presents 52 similar signs of cultural elements that provide an aesthetic education for aliens of local culture. The work was made at a time when our local government was desperate to stop "illegal" aliens from entering our location. These artworks were part of a larger work titled "Infrathin, Advice for Aliens' and was intended to begin the process of making it possible for aliens to pass as locals.
