40 Days of Looking for you
.
Shoes, rubber, acrylic paint. 22.5 x 9 cm. 2021
He was gone at sunset. No packing was required for this departure. In the 40 days that followed, his soul would be free to wander back to places he had been in his lifetime. I waited, wondering if he would come to visit me. I longed to sense his presence, to know he was OK. As the days passed, the silence his absence left behind, filled my ears. No visit. I often thought about whether he was with me, maybe I was not picking up the signal. I think of him often. Especially at sunset.
My artistic practice revolves around exploration and experimentation. Using materials in as many ways as possible till I find a place where I am content. Oftentimes, the medium brings the idea. The way the medium flows, feels, cracks, lights up, stops me and relates to something else in the world. Through happy accidents, haphazard blunders and hours of persistence my ‘eureka’ moments materialize.
