Grid Riff I and II
.
Acrylic on Perspex. Each 20 x 20 cms (diptych). 2022
This small diptych riffs on the modernist horizontal and vertical grid.
Brush marks are contained by linear borders, locked in and restrained, crisscrossing within a tight green frame. Bands of overlapping colour form new colours and cast shadows onto the wall behind, creating an interior space. The wall support inhabits the work.
Colourful order and containment – all is as it should be.

I am a painter, living and working on Darramurra-gal land (Sydney)
Using the language of abstraction, I seek an unlikely cohesion between hard-edge geometry and painterly gesture, with particular interest in colour and material.
Using the modernist grid as a framework I continually return to themes of order, containment, and the idea that known boundaries allow for the possibility of greater freedom.
I hold a BFA (National Art School) and a Dip Fine Art (Meadowbank TAFE) and have exhibited extensively since 2008.
