 Scribbly Gum

Micro-computer, flat screen monitor, printer, sound, toner on paper, 125Wx180Hx100D cm

Much of our flora is home to our fauna. The scribbly gum larvae was only sketchily recorded until relatively recently, and the moth with its wingspan of just 8 to 10 mm was easy to overlook. The Scribbly Gum Tree, however, in all its magnificence draws our attention to the home of these tiny critters. The home where they are born, the home where they grow, where they play and the home they spend their short adult life.

Inspired by the Scribbly Gum Moth's life cycle I am presenting a computer-based multimodal sculture that includes code-poetry, sound and computer generated scribbles that are autonomosly printed and fall to the floor emulating shedding bark.

Media: Micro-computer, flat screen monitor, printer, sound, toner on paper.
Dimensions: 125Wx180Hx100D cm
My art practice uses combinations of processes, procedures, computer code, electronics, hand stitching and various forms of reproduction.

Through the pairing of unconventional methods with unrealised relationships I create convoluted sound, image and kinetic contraptions to explore ways machines dance with the agency of people, nature and other machines.

My art-based qualifications include DipVA, BVA(Hons) and MFA as well as an Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
