Political Bodies
.
2022, coloured pencil on paper 22 cm x 29 cm courtesy the artist & Kronenberg Mais Wright, Sydney
Political Bodies evokes an air of clinical disquiet, a found forensic scene where mannequin parts lay broken & in disarray amid random detritus. Being in a body is inherently, inescapably political, & these once ideal, now disordered bodies call into question ideas of bodily autonomy & conformity.
My drawing practice uses a precise coloured pencil technique to investigate language & how images are consumed & processed. Found text fragments & photo - based images intersect in a form of visual poetry that encompasses the personal & the political. Conceptually, my work looks at issues around gender, identity, embodiment, & memory.
