Kathryn Bird

 Suffused Mourning: Incense

.

Installation with glass dome, bowl, incense, linen handkerchieves, glass lacrimariums, and process video, 2025-2026

Kathryn Bird is an artist making art, rituals and communities on Gadigal land.
Her eco-responsive works centre nature as essential to navigating her disability, exploring enriching and soothing relationality with the more-than-human.
Embracing her identity as a disabled artist, Kathryn's unique perspective enriches her work, fostering connections that consider physical and cognitive capacity.
Kathryn’s work is now primarily in two areas, ritual grief work and environmental actions. Her current work explores sensory engagement rituals, including burning incense to enrich and pace the catharsis of grief. Sensorium practices are accompanied by citizen science, mourning and resisting ecological devastation.
