Impermanence In Motion

Alexander Bebbington
Featuring the Entomology Collections of Mathew Huan

Downstairs  | Opens on Sep 9 until Sep 24 | Fri, Sat & Sun

Impermanence in Motion invites the viewer to delve into the microcosm - beckoning you to consider the microscopic and often hidden marvels that sustain our world. Through painting, photography and installation, the exhibition offers an in-depth study of botanical and entomological collections, repositioning the significance of insects in the contingent relationship we hold to our surroundings in the age of the Capitolocene.
Alexander Bebbington’s passion for the natural world and drive to create work that focuses on changing the viewers outlook on how they see the world around them has seen him team up with Sydney entomologist Matthew Huan. Matthew’s delicate collections – of species found throughout the Inner West – have been painstakingly curated over years of exploration and wonder, and offer a glimpse into the astonishing world of insects. Each handpicked specimen tells a story of adaptation, resilience, and interconnectedness – a narrative that echoes throughout the exhibition, inviting viewers to recognize the urgency of preservation in the face of change.

Impermanence in Motion is more than an artistic endeavour; it is a celebration of nature found specifically throughout the Inner West, and – perhaps more crucially – it serves as a fervent plea for awareness and action. It encourages us to reevaluate our relationship with the environment and embrace the role each of us plays in the intricate relationship we hold to the world around us.
