Shibui is a Japanese word meaning “that beauty which makes an artist of the viewer”. Here a simple reading of simple words is all that is necessary to understand how I have brought together several ideas – place, materials and text. I create a sense of space and a patterning based on leaf forms found in this specific landscape to enable the viewer to be present in the landscape and to respond poetically. This work opens up the book form so that all readings are available similtaneously but one has to search.
It is possible to form complete haikus from the text in the classic form of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.
